Our recent doctoral research into UK organizations during the pandemic era and beyond has revealed crucial insights about how businesses build lasting resilience in turbulent markets. Through rigorous quantitative analysis of over 200 UK firms, including SMEs and large organizations, we’ve uncovered how successful organizations balance efficiency with innovation to thrive amidst uncertainty – an ability that becomes increasingly critical as business lifecycles compress from 60 years to just 5-10 years in our technology-driven economy.

Our findings challenge conventional wisdom about crisis response, demonstrating that organizations – whether small or large – require distinct approaches to maintain performance during turbulence. As artificial intelligence and digital transformation accelerate, this research provides vital insights for businesses navigating constant change. We’re particularly focused on how these technological shifts are reshaping traditional organizational boundaries, with emerging evidence suggesting that AI-enabled micro-organizations may soon achieve the output of traditional larger firms – fundamentally challenging how we think about business scale and structure.
